CLUB NEWS  22/07/2019

Bowls this weekend was cancelled due to the rain which we are all very thankful for. We also got a real taste of winter just to remind us that winter is still around.

On Tuesday afternoon Jane Armitage and her team of Sue Purdon, Eulalie Moorcroft and Jo-Anne Brown won the Guido vouchers. Well played ladies and thank you to Guido’s for your continued support.

There were two contenders for the wrong bias trophy, which cost both John Gie and Rodney Wilson a penalty amidst much mirth and discussion that the coach Rodney had a wrong bias. It happens to the most experienced bowlers from time to time. Usually a lack of concentration is the cause.

Trevor Frost and David Freeme travelled to a very cold Graaff Reinet this weekend to play in the E.P. Pairs finals. They were knocked out by one shot to Willie Kilian and Alan Paris from Walmer Bowling Club who went on to become the E.P. pairs champions and claim the cup. Hard luck Trevor and David and well bowled to the winners and Trevor and David.

We have our night bowls evening this Friday the 26th July and all are welcome to join us for a fun evening. Bowls are provided for those who have never played bowls before. Tabs in at 5.30 p.m. followed by a bring and braai.

The men’s E.A. Trips play offs between Trevor Frost, Andrew Stirley and Eric Kent will be played at Port Alfred Club on Saturday morning the 27th July and Saturday afternoon. The next round will be played on the Saturday afternoon the 3rd August at Port Alfred Bowling Club.

The winners of the Ladies Trips, Sandra Wiblin’s team and Jane Armitage team will also play on the 3rd August to establish the E.A. winner. Both teams will represent Eastern Areas to play against E.P. at Albany Bowling Club on the 17th and 18th  August 2019.

You still have a chance to buy tickets for our show on Saturday the 27th July at 6.30 p.m. We have a Spanish singer and the tickets which are R 80.00 include a meal.
